Ugh, E-Save mode on my DS4 E-Tense is driving me nuts! Like, I turn it on, thinking the battery will chill; but nope – its’ still draining like crazy.
Is it the cold weather messing with it? I’m so over it!

Anyone else dealing with this? Especially in the cold? Got any tips to make it actually work?

The engine-start feature is designed to activate only when you're driving in a mode other than Electric. This allows the car to save battery power for later use in electric-only mode.

However, the car's battery usage can be significantly impacted by cold weather, as the battery needs to power the climate control system. This can lead to quicker battery drain, even when not actively driving the car.

Hey, check this out: E-save works well on the highway but not in city traffic. I set it to 10 km with 4 km of battery left, and it charged to 8 km in 10 minutes. Petrol consumption was 10.2l/100km during charging, then dropped to 7.0l/100km at higher speeds. It never reached the 10 km target, so petrol only converts to battery at higher speeds.

In Comfort mode with E-Save turned all the way up, it barely uses any electric power. It mostly just uses gas, even when you're barely moving.

In fact, in Comfort mode with E-Save on, the gas engine kicks in right away. I have to drive super slow to make it use any electric power at all.

I tried this in a different car the other day, and it did the same thing. The gas engine came on right away.

It seems like the car wants to use gas in Comfort mode, especially when you're trying to save gas. It still uses electric, but not much.

Think of E Save as the battery's ‘save it for later’ mode. It’s designed to hold onto some charge and sprinkle a bit back in when necessary, but don’t expect it to work wonders. For example, if you start at 80% and drop 10%, E Save isn’t gonna bring you back to 80% SOC. From what I’ve noticed, it might bump the charge up a little, but it’s never gonna fully refill what you used. Manage those expectations!

Hey! The cold might be affecting the battery's performance. Cold temps can impact how well the E-Save mode works, as the battery tends to drain faster. Try keeping your car in a warmer place, if possible, or make sure the battery is fully charged before using E-Save mode. Hopefully, that helps!

Cold weather definitely affects battery performance but a rapid drain suggests a bigger issue. Make sure you're not using features that use a lot of power like heated seats or high climate control settings. check if there's an E-Save setting in the car's system to adjust how much battery it saves. If it's still not working correctlytake it to the dealer. They can check for software problems or battery system issues.

I’ve been pre-heating the car before I drive, and it definitely helps with the drain a bit. Also, if you can, try keeping it in Hybrid mode more often—it seems to keep things more balanced when it’s cold out.
